Greetings! Thank you for your message. Sorghum is included in the IYM. I am sure your samples would be welcomed. Mr. Mazzucchelli is cc’d on this email. Additionally, we are hosting an international sorghum processor and investor summit in Nebraska in March 2023. Look for the event on eventbright.com keyword: Nebraska Sorghum. Thanks, Nate. Hello all, Some important information here. The info on the international sorghum processor and investor summit in Nebraska in March 2023 is appreciated. I'm sure that will get on the FAO calendar for International Year of Millets (typically these international years host something like that), and we'll be sure to have it on the NAMA website when we get that together. Regarding the larger questions of sorghum and the IYM, yes, as you note, sorghum is included in among the millets promoted in the year. At the other end of the size spectrum, teff is also included.* Aside from those two, fonio, raishan, Job's-tears (aka adlay) are included along with all the small grains commonly surnamed "millet" in English (proso millet, pearl millet, foxtail millet, finger millet, etc.). We're also suggesting that Panicum hirticaule , sometimes called Sonoran panic grass or Sonoran millet, also be included. Of all of these, 3 are commercially produced for human consumption in the US and Canada (sorghum, proso, and teff). Sorghum, proso, and I believe foxtail (more on that later) are commercially produced in Mexico. Various others are produced for animal feed or forage in the region. Several of the other millets are imported as food in small volumes from other world regions. Attached is a list of millets, which is another item to help people get a sense of the diversity of crops in this category. It is not a final draft (just version 2) and is not intended to be definitive on the subject. For those wondering, the context of Nate's posting to which I'm replying here was an exchange of emails with a representative of a Bolivian pasta producer - Coronilla - that seeks to share samples of its product made with sorghum at the Dec. 6 event at FAO in Rome. The Collab list was cc'd on the exchange, but the particulars of that exchange, however important, were not forwarded to the list as they mostly concerned two other parties (Coronilla and FAO) who are not subscribed. That said, if you have questions or requests relating to growing, processing, or marketing millets, those might be relevant for posting here. This email list is part of a set of platforms NAMA is using for exchange of information and planning. More on that if of interest. Best to all, Don DO, EL, MI, US NAMA Notes: * https://lists.millets2023.space/pipermail/collab/2022-October/000087.html On Tue, Nov 22, 2022 at 12:53 PM Board, Sorghum <Sorghum.board@nebraska.gov> wrote:
